i agree to a large extend that blogging is beneficial for supporting student reflection, provide that they are reflecting correctly and for the right purpose. blogs allow students to do their reflection freely, ie, during their free time or as and when they feel like blogging. blogs are like digital diaries that can let them pen down their thoughts or experience and through viewing of the students' blogs, the teacher will be able to know what the students are thinking etc. blogging also allows them to view their previous posts and reflect on their previous reflections.
however, the student must follow proper blogging behavior and avoid cyberbullying and related online issues, or else, the blog will not be beneficial to support student reflection. for example, if they receive negative comments or are cyberbullied for their reflections on the blog, they may feel more reserved to post freely what they feel or experience. when this happens, blogging becomes more of a hindrance than a support for their reflection since they are unable to reflect and express themselves freely.
some questions that may arise are whether all the students have the required netiquette about blogging. as mentioned earlier, they need to have it in order for blogs to be beneficial. the other question is about how the teacher is able to effectively comment and provide feedback for every student's reflection etc without overloading himself with a lot of work.

I think it is important that students know the correct netiquette when writing or posting anything online but will this also restrict their thoughts and creativity at the same time? If they know the teacher is watching and reading will their responses be natural?
ReplyDeleteI agree that there is a certain netiquette the students should adhere to when writing or posting anything online but will these be like chains on their creativity as well? Also will their responses be natural when they know that their teacher is watching and reading?
ReplyDeletethe use of correct netiquette is definitely a need in order for uses of blogs to be maximized. as to the nature of the responses, i think it will depend on the student. if the student is an out-spoken person, the responses will of course be natural.
